The Photographer

I'm Kev Moonan, I live on the Isle of Man and I began taking photographs sometime in 1992 whilst at Castle Rushen High School. I studied further in College and have been largely self-taught since then.

I’ve read a copious number of books and articles and spent days at a time playing around with a camera just to see what happens. Over the years I’ve made mistakes, lost film, deleted files, dropped cameras, cracked lenses and run out of batteries. I’ve found myself in the right place at the right time without a camera or snapped away merrily only to find I was on the wrong setting.

Photography can be a hit or miss experience, an adjustment to a models pose and/or lighting. A patient pause as something enters or exits the frame. It can be returning to a place in the hope that the conditions are just so only they are not. It can be exhilarating, maddening and intimidating all at once.

As time and technology enable ever more options I continue to learn, adapt and build on that knowledge. As with so many things this is an art where the more you learn, the more you know, the more you realise just how little you know and just how much there is still to learn.

For those that are interested here's a little info on some of my cameras over the years.
