Odyssey

A few years ago, possibly whilst sunning on a bed in Greece or perhaps at home working on the photos I’d recently taken when I was there. I had a thought.

“Through my visits to the Greek Islands, I can show my own journey as a photographer”.

In 2005 we went to Rhodes; I was still using film at the time. I switched to digital the following year when for the first time I was able to manipulate colour properly, something that in wet photography I could never afford. Each time we returned we travelled somewhere different. I learnt from each place, tried new techniques with mixed results.

As my life experience grew so did my appreciation of these places and my photographic focus. In 2019 I began the painstaking process of selecting the images. I managed to whittle them down to twenty or so per Island but knew that was far too many. Calling upon Rachel (my girlfriend in 2005 and wife since 2007) we ruthlessly reduced each set to only five images per Island.

This is Odyssey, a continuing journey of my photography as told through the Greek Islands which exhibited in Ramsey on the Isle of Man in September 2021.

To begin the journey click the picture below, this image didn't make the cut by the finest of margins and was instead raffled as a prize during the exhibition, I just had to include it somewhere.
